Chalk drawings: e=mc² events

Something a little different for me, chalk-style illustrations! Check out the full set on the e=mc² events WEBSITE, ZGM did a great job incorporating the style throughout and animating my drawings!
Thanks to Kristen and ZGM!

Some sketches that didn't get used:

Purity Ring - Shrines

Purity Ring album review illustration for Beatroute Magazine! I listened to their new album, Shrines, about 3412 times while working on the illustration and it's so so good. Buy it. Or go see them live. Or both.

songbirds!

Oh hello, neglected blog! It's been a pretty crazy few months, including a relocation to the fine city of Vancouver. Hello, Vancouver!

Here are some songbirds for Organic Gardening! One of the most fun jobs I've done all year, I will never ever tire of drawing cute lil critters. If you need cute critters, CALL ME.

The Pauses Interact-O-Vision

Poster for good pals, the Pauses! The exploding organ shown is part of their super cool interactive show, where the audience gets to create and manipulate the visuals and effects by playing around on the synthesizer keyboard!

Queen St. East Map

I really enjoy illustrating maps and had a great time doing this one of Queen Street East in Toronto for the National Post this past weekend! It was a pretty quick turnaround, about a day and a half start to finish, but I also enjoy a 'lil high pressure rush job every now and then too. Thanks Becky!

Orange You Glad Fest!

Just wrapped up a fun project doing the identity for a music festival in Orlando coming up this weekend, Orange You Glad Fest! I did a bunch of hand type for the website too, thanks to Chris Anderson for incorporating it so well! It's been a pleasure working with Tierney again, her original idea/direction was "vintage postcard" feel, so I started there for the logo and website banner:

Keeping the look consistent, I developed that further that for the festival poster, putting the imagery into "postcards" on a table setting:

Then Tierney had a cool idea to turn them into actual postcards to use as fliers for the festival! (picture by Tierney)

Also got to do a Grimes poster for the festival pre-party!

Hope the festival is awesome, wish I could be there! Thanks T!
(Also, 100th post! Whoa!)

Organic Gardening: Employee Garden

Illustration for Organic Gardening about a really neat garden the workers at MC Ironworks created in between two of their warehouses. One person built a fishpond, another made a bridge, a fountain, others brought in an assortment of plants, trees, flowers, and statues. It's all organic, all employee-owned and maintained, and in total cost only $300, which the company paid for!

John K. Samson

Illustration of John K. Samson, frontman of the Weakerthans and Propaghandi, for a review of his first full length solo album, Provincial, in the February issue of Exclaim! magazine! Check out a stream of the album here, almost makes me a little nostalgic for the prairies... :)
